Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have no experience in film and video. Can I still take your workshops?
A: Absolutely. Many of our workshops are designed for people just like you-those interested in film and video making, but with no idea where to begin. Take a look at our workshop schedule and find the course descriptions that have "Introduction," "Basic," or "Developing" in the title.

Q: Can I get school credit from taking IMAGE workshops?
A: While we sometimes collaborate with area high schools and colleges, our workshops are non-credit, continuing education offerings. Often, however, students from local film schools will take our workshops in addition to their regular course work to gain extra hands-on instruction and to make industry contacts.

Q: Who teaches your workshops?
A: All of our workshops are taught by people who make their living working in the entertainment industry. We feel this gives our students a huge advantage when they begin to make their own projects for two reasons:

1. Because our instructors work in the industry, they have to be aware of current market trends and technology changes.
2. Because our instructors work in the industry it gives students a valuable inside contact. Many of our students have worked with/for or hired their IMAGE instructor(s).

Q: How often to courses repeat or change?
A: IMAGE workshops are offered in three sessions: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. While our introductory classes like Developing the Screenplay and Basic Cinematography are usually programmed every session, some classes are not. Therefore, we recommend you take a workshop that interests you when it is offered.

Q. How can I get involved in film & video production in Atlanta?
A. Check www.AtlantaFilms.com on a regular basis, call the Georgia Film &Videotape Office hotline, 404.656.6497, for information on what is being shot in town and around the Southeast. Check out the OZ magazine web site (www.telefilm-south.com). Attend the free monthly AIVF/Mediamaker's Salons and meet others who are working in the area. Be willing to volunteer on projects until you have enough contacts and experience to work professionally in the community. Also check out the IMAGE workshops currently being offered to see if they could be helpful in gaining skills that would be useful in advancing your career.

Q: Can I get production-related work through IMAGE?
A: IMAGE is a non-profit organization that exists as a support system for independent film and video artists. The services IMAGE provides includes maintaining a bulletin board, folders containing festival and funding information, and a resume file for IMAGE members. We also have a limited library of sourcebooks that relate to the film and video industry. IMAGE does not function as an employment agency; nor do we provide production-related work. IMAGE members are welcome to visit during office hours to peruse these sources of information.

Q: Can I rent equipment through IMAGE?
A: In the past, IMAGE has offered discounted rates for the rental of cameras, lights, and editing equipment. At this time, this service has been discontinued until further notice. IMAGE hopes to resume this service in the future. Please call IMAGE for more details.

Q: Does IMAGE need volunteers?
A: Yes! If you are interested in volunteering, IMAGE always needs people to sell tickets and assist at our monthly screenings, as well as help out in the office throughout the year. Also, IMAGE needs volunteers during the spring months to help run the Atlanta Film Festival. If you are interested, email HERE for more information.
